these two people are so interesting. met them at naomi’s going away party. (naomi’s going to lima to be a correspondent for the ft.) they are editing a doc of the looting of archaeological sites in iraq and how the us gov apparently did nothing to prevent it even though it wouldnt have cost much. (in ww2 the us gov had a special group to protect antiquities in italy.) these are important places too. according to marie-helene: most of these sites - Sumerian sites, where writing was invented, and where civilization’s first documented thoughts are inscribed on clay tablets - have not been excavated.
